An American missionary and humanitarian worker Alex Barbir has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, accusing the Nigerian leader of repeated inaction following the brutal killing of over 10 Christians during a Palm Sunday attack in Plateau State.
In a viral video recorded from the scene of the violence, Alex Barbir, a Florida-based missionary leading the humanitarian group Building Zion, directly addressed the President.
He expressed outrage that while “innocent Christians are being slaughtered in the night,” the President remains at Aso Rock doing nothing as the killings continue again and again.
The Attack
The incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area 30/03/2026. According to eyewitness reports, gunmen, allegedly dressed in military uniforms, stormed the community and opened fire on residents. At least 12 people were confirmed dead, with several others injured.
Speaking amid the grief, Barbir questioned the President directly: “Tinubu, where are you as your people are slaughtered in the night? As you sit in Aso Rock and you do absolutely nothing, you allow your people to be killed again and again and again.
Accusations of Denial
Alex Barbir accused the Federal Government of denying the severity of the crisis. “You can no longer deny genocide. They are being slaughtered, and you say there is no issue,” he stated .He warned that the continued inaction would have consequences, insisting that the government must take responsibility before it is too late. You will regret what you are doing,” he added.
Context of Recurring Violence
This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the region. Just a week prior to the Jos attack, gunmen had attacked the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo community, Kwara State, abducting eight worshippers.
Plateau State and surrounding regions have faced long-running insecurity linked to land disputes, ethnic divisions, and what rights groups describe as targeted attacks on Christian communities . Following the Jos attack, authorities imposed a 48-hour curfew in parts of Plateau State to stem rising tension.
Reactions
The video has sparked intense debate. While many have rallied behind Barbir’s call for accountability, some figures, including former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, have urged authorities to investigate the missionary’s activities, accusing him of spreading “hate and attempting to incite violence”
Alex Barbir is known locally for his humanitarian work in conflict-hit areas, reportedly helping to rebuild more than 35 homes for victims of attacks in Benue State . His organization, Building Zion, has been active in providing relief to displaced communities.
